Join us for a roundtable discussion on the topic of parenting and social media, facilitated by our friends at Aspire Too. As content creators we feel a responsibility to give back to our community in ways that are meaningful and open dialogue about the positive and negative of social media. Parents often don’t know what their children are accessing and the potential risks that come along with social media. While children may experience disempowerment, bullying, increased anxiety and struggle with boundaries. There is also opportunity to learn almost anything online, showcase talents and connect with like-minded peers. The core values of Social Recharge are making time for self-care and finding balance with technology. Thank you to everyone who came out to Social Recharge. The topic of parenting and social media is a big one and it was great be able to come together and share experiences today in a constructive discussion. So what were some of the big takeaways? Setting boundaries and modeling healthy behaviors with social media was a key point. Using contracts to establish expectations and creating physical places to store devices were two great ideas on how to manage usage. Creating awareness around the risks of social media and educating our children on the reality of where their images and content may end up. Understanding that social media is an intentional form of expression and everyone is making conscious choices on the social image they choose to craft. We all have uncomfortable talks with our children. What’s unique about the social media talk is that most parents don’t understand the medium to the depths their children do. As parents it’s essential to be aware of what your children are accessing and to take the time to learn the technology. Thank you so much to Elizabeth and Gisele from Aspire Too for helping lead the discussion. They are planning to create a more education-based workshop on the topic in the near future. If you would like more info on that talk please email [email protected] Aspire TooWe are joined by Elizabeth Smith (Co-owner) BA, BSW, RSW and Gisele Plamondon BSW, RSW from Aspire Too. We hope that people come away from the event with more confidence in knowing how to manage the influence of social media with their children. We want parents to become the safest space for children to have conversation about the medium. Thank YouThank you to everyone who contributed their thoughts on this topic during the filming of our campaign video. Elizabeth, Gisele, Barb, Jami, Tarrant and Heather we deeply appreciate you sharing with us. Thanks also to Thrive Juice Co. and Hometown Diner for providing refreshments. Often we are unaware of the real reach and impact our actions have on social media. Join us for a group discussion on our social responsibility as content creators and how to build inspired communities through social media.
We are excited be joined by Gisele Plamondon from Aspire Too, who will be co-leading the discussion with us. The core values of Social Recharge are creating time for self-care and finding balance with technology. We encourage everyone to bring pen and paper in place of electronic devices. Big thank you to Gisele Plamondon from Aspire Too for helping to facilitate the discussion today. We were particularly inspired by your comment about our generation figuring out Social Media and passing those positive habits on to our children. Deep gratitude for your contributions today at Social Recharge.
Social Recharge. Like many things new and exciting, this one feels almost impossible to explain. The idea behind it is, as business owners and managers we often have a tendency to work more instead of working with more balance. We wanted to give people an opportunity to learn some great skills with social media, but also take an hour to just totally unwind. Part yoga. Part social media. All workshop. We teamed up with Darlene Blanch from One Yoga because of the unique understanding she has of the importance of self care. The conversations I had with Darlene about this were really transformative and I wanted to be able to share this with our clients. In the spirit of creating more balance in our hectic lives we have dedicated the final hour of the workshop to optimizing your social media for business. We will be looking over how to schedule and plan your posts. Also we will discover ways to delegate content creation to employees, customers and brand ambassadors. We hope this 2 hour workshop will serve to create better habits, lower stress levels and encourage some sweet community bonding.
